Mr. Antony Jacob's Interview in NDTV

Antony Jacob: Health Insurance Package

How do you ensure that the common masses many of whom are illiterate and even innumerate, make judicious decisions regarding the composition of health insurance benefit packages?

Ultimately the individual needs to make the final choice nothing should be thrust or forced upon them. Whilst it is right there are many people who need health insurance who are above the poverty line, who are not literate. Below the poverty line, there is no need to make any choice because it is a Government scheme and it is a one time fixed scheme. There are many means used to publicize them for eg. vans with loudspeakers to educate them about what the coverage is and how they should make their claims etc.

But above the poverty line, at the end of the day the individual has to make their own choice. However, companies like us educate our distributor in terms of target selling, to put in front of them the appropriate product. The power of Indian cable television is enormous, it has reached every nook and corner of the country. Through the advertising media, through the TV channels you can educate your customers within a few seconds of slot you have, how your product is superior to the product/service of somebody else. At the end of the day success in terms of penetration for individual companies is hugely based on the word of mouth spread. So I go back to the point that customers are most important people for the organization and when we get the services and claim experience right, the word will spread.
